Pezula Cup 2025

One of the highlights of the year got off to a flying start on Friday with the nearest to pin shootout between South Africa and the Internationals. The scores didn’t count towards the overall competition but each pair had two attempts to try to win a point for their team. The overall result was a friendly 7-7 but Frank Liebich’s shot to the green was really close and he went home with the honour of having secured nearest to the pin for the evening. The Pezula team served up some tasty burgers, the drink was flowing and Doug Bean entertained everyone with live music.

The main competition was held over the Saturday and Sunday with foursomes, betterball and matchplay being the three formats. The respective team captains, Dawie and Trevor had given careful consideration to their pairings and battle commenced at 7:00 Saturday morning. The weather remained hot and sunny throughout the two days, the golf course was beautiful and every match closely fought. Remax, our sponsor for the competition, was on the course to serve up tequila, caramel vodka, beer and soft drinks to keep the players motivated and then before the prize giving and braai, they set up the putting green with a bottle bonanza. If you hit it, you won it! Dawie was, I’m sure, delighted with his large bottle of water he hit and Linda McEwan was seen clutching her bottle of Jägermeister close to her chest – probably to forestall any negotiations on a swap!
The national anthems from the winning team rung round the club house. The staff joined in for the South African National Anthem and rounded off another wonderful weekend at Pezula. Huge thank you to: Gerard and his team for a beautifully presented golf course Chantal and her team for three days of great food and drink Ashley, Christo and the pro shop team for a faultlessly run competition Remax, the sponsor, for their give aways, prizes, activations and putting bonanza (I’m sure Dawie enjoyed his bottle of water!) South African team – read them and weep, international team – well played but the South Africans will be coming for you next year!
